The Emerging Municipal Leader award highlights an early-career municipal professional who is already making a strong and meaningful contribution to their community. It celebrates someone who brings fresh ideas, curiosity, and a commitment to public service, and who shows clear potential to become a future leader in the municipal sector. The recipient demonstrates initiative, a willingness to learn, and an ability to build relationships across teams and communities. Their work reflects a growing expertise in local government, whether through project leadership, innovation, problem-solving, or supporting organizational improvements.

 The Emerging Municipal Leader is awarded to someone who is early in their municipal career but already making an impact through their drive, collaboration, and commitment to strengthening their municipality.

Eligibility Criteria

The nominee must:

  • Be an early-career professional (within the first 5 years of their municipal career) working in or with a Canadian municipality or municipal organization
  • Have demonstrated a meaningful contribution to their community or municipal organization
  • Show initiative, curiosity, and a strong commitment to public service
  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate and build relationships across teams and communities
  • Contribute to municipal work through project leadership, innovation, problem-solving, or organizational improvement
  • Show clear potential for future leadership within the municipal sector
