This award recognizes innovative approaches completed at the neighbourhood-scale (or at the community scale for municipalities with populations of less than 10,000). The winning initiative must improve sustainability in at least two of the following sectors: energy, water, waste and transportation. Programs, strategies, plans and projects will be considered.

Examples of eligible initiatives include:

  • Transit-oriented development plans
  • Neighbourhood revitalization strategies
  • Sustainable neighbourhood action plans

Winners in each category are automatically eligible for FCM’s Inspire Award. Check out the 2018 Inspire Award winner, a bus orientation program that significantly improved transit ridership in the City of Kingston, ON.

We will honour the winners at our Sustainable Communities Conference, Canada’s leading municipal sustainability event, taking place on October 20-22, 2020, in St. John's, NL.
