This award is granted to a municipality that demonstrates an innovative approach to improving the consumption, quality, treatment or distribution of water. Programs and projects are eligible; plans are not eligible.

Examples of eligible initiatives include:

  • Water conservation projects, such as grey water systems, rainwater collection or fixture replacement systems
  • Wastewater treatment projects, including septic systems
  • Leachate treatment/management
  • Stormwater management, such as permeable pavement, bio-retention planters, and phyto-filtration

Winners in each category are automatically eligible for FCM’s Inspire Award. Check out the 2018 Inspire Award winner, a bus orientation program that significantly improved transit ridership in the City of Kingston, ON.
