The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is the national voice for Canada's local governments.  FCM’s advocacy and programs help secure new resources and tools to build stronger communities, bringing together nearly 2,000 municipalities of all sizes – representing more than 90 percent of Canadians. FCM supports its members’ priorities on the national stage through its policy, government relations and media work, and through delivery of a world-class suite of programs such as the Green Municipal Fund, the Municipal Asset Management Program, Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program, Women in Local Government, First Nation Municipal Collaboration, International Programs, and more. The results of FCM’s advocacy and programs are cities and communities that are building a more prosperous, livable, and sustainable future for all Canadians.   

After 30 years of service, and 12 years as chief executive, FCM’s CEO is retiring, leaving an organization that is poised to deliver to members the information, advocacy, and resources they need to best serve their communities.    

Passionate, strategic, and results-driven, the CEO will have an affinity for fostering consensus, and demonstrated experience in engaging multiple national and international stakeholder groups. An excellent listener and superb communicator in both official languages, the CEO will have a talent for drawing out the potential of others and understands the most important resource of any national association is its members and the people working within it. The CEO is a tireless advocate for municipal issues and their direct effect on the lives of Canadians, ensuring these issues and solutions remain top of mind for the federal government and other key stakeholders with whom FCM engages. 

As an ideal candidate, you are a passionate leader with experience leading both a membership and programs-based organization through a period of rapid evolution. You excel working with a wide variety of stakeholders and are comfortable acting as the lead internal and external representative of the FCM. You are characterised by others as a strategic leader of impeccable integrity, values, and vision. You are a proven leader and mentor and understand that high performing organizations value trust and culture as core values. You appreciate the dynamics of leading an organization that serves members in communities of all sizes, through public policy, advocacy, and program delivery. The ideal candidate believes strongly in the obligation of ensuring communities across Canada continue to thrive.
