KARIM BENESSAIEH, OTTAWA - Ottawa is planning to distribute more than $1 billion to municipalities “to increase energy efficiency in residential, commercial and multi‑unit buildings.” In concrete terms, three different components will be funded. The first one involves modernizing large community buildings. In addition, $300 million will be earmarked for residential renovation programs implemented by municipalities. In particular, “homeowners could qualify for assistance in replacing furnaces and installing renewable energy technologies.” Finally, the same amount will be allocated to improve the energy efficiency of affordable housing units. These funds will be paid to the Green Municipal Fund managed by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. (French only)
