OTTAWA - The following statement was released by Claude Dauphin, President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), following the passing of former Finance Minister Jim Flaherty:
"FCM would like to extend its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of former Finance Minister Jim Flaherty.
We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of one of Canada's longest serving and most respected finance ministers. It's a sad day for our country.
Today municipalities have lost a friend and a strong advocate at the Cabinet table. He leaves behind a legacy of ushering in as finance minister an unprecedented federal-municipal partnership that will benefit cities and communities for years to come."
