NIAGARA REGION, ON - The following statement was released today by Claude Dauphin, President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), following today's speech by Justin Trudeau, Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada at FCM´s annual conference:

"Municipal leaders welcomed Mr. Trudeau's remarks and his clear understanding of the issues and challenges faced by Canada's hometowns.

Mr. Trudeau reiterated his commitment to expand federal infrastructure investments up to 1% of GDP per year. We applaud his commitment to sufficient, predictable and sustainable funding for infrastructure, including critical and focused investment in transit.

We were also pleased to hear that Mr. Trudeau shares our view that ensuring all Canadians have a decent place to live must be a top priority of the federal government. We welcome his strong commitment to adequate and affordable housing.

Today, Mr. Trudeau sent a clear message that he values the role of strong hometowns in building a strong Canada. We look forward to continuing to work with him and his team."
