GMF works with municipalities and their partners to ensure land is protected, restored, used, and managed responsibly.

We give local governments access to innovative, technically and economically viable environmentally sustainable solutions to their land use challenges. By leveraging our funding and training, GMF provides municipalities the means and resources to lead the transition to sustainable Canadian communities.

Study: Site remediation or risk management

We fund feasibility studies of initiatives that have the potential to bring a brownfield site back into economically productive use. This funding helps Canadian cities and communities of all sizes remediate their brownfield sites.

Capital project: Brownfield site redevelopment

We fund capital projects for initiatives that bring a brownfield site back into economically productive use. You can access brownfield-specific funding if your initiative will be constructed on a remediated brownfield site and it meets the requirements of a capital project listed in our funding library under energy, transportation, waste or water.

Pilot project: Renewable energy production on a brownfield

We fund pilot projects for initiatives that generate renewable energy on a brownfield site, with or without its remediation. This funding helps Canadian cities and communities of all sizes use brownfield sites to create economic and environmental benefits.
