The effects of climate change unfold differently in Canadian cities and communities from coast to coast. That's why we've distributed climate adaptation partner grants to organizations in more than 70 communities of all sizes and from every region of Canada.
Our partner organizations offer training, guidance and learning activities to municipalities as they adapt to the effects of climate change and try to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. One of the partners' main activities has been developing peer learning networks—groups of five or more municipalities in a region or province that face similar geographic or climate conditions and have common goals.
Their aim is to help the municipalities collaborate and share knowledge so they can better adapt to the impacts of climate change. Their community projects include steps such as assessing their vulnerability to climate change, creating plans to adapt to it and improving municipal systems and facilities to meet specific local needs.
The Government of Canada provided $2.4 M in funding for these climate adaptation partner grants.
