Call for applications: Showcase Cities pilot project
Is your municipality a leader in climate action? Are you interested in sharing your community’s experience globally while you advance ambitious climate goals?
FCM and ICLEI — Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI Canada) are accepting applications for the Global Covenant of Mayors Canada (GCoM) Showcase Cities pilot project. We’re recruiting 20 – 40 Canadian municipalities committed to advancing the transition to a low emission and climate-resilient economy.
Benefits of participating in the GCoM Showcase Cities pilot project
Advance your community’s climate change action planning activities through:
- Tailored workshops for municipal staff on themes including GHG inventories, risk and vulnerability assessments and climate change adaptation and mitigation planning
- One-on-one support for municipal staff working through local climate planning processes
- Assistance with reporting to the GCoM, Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program and Building Adaptive and Resilient Communities (BARC) program
- Access to exclusive networking opportunities and showcasing of municipal actions nationally and internationally
Applicants must be signatories of the Global Covenant of Mayors in Canada at the time of application or be willing to become signatories if selected. Canadian members of the former Compact of Mayors are automatically members of the Global Covenant of Mayors in Canada; however, they must apply to the Showcase Cities if they would like to join the pilot project.
How to apply
The Global Covenant of Mayors Canada is a collaboration between the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, ICLEI Canada, the Global Covenant of Mayors Secretariat and the International Urban Cooperation Project supported by funding from the European Union. The initiative combines two leading domestic climate programs, the Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program and Building Adaptive and Resilient Communities (BARC), with the leading global climate program. Together we can further advance Canadian local climate action by adding value, opportunities and streamlined support for members.
