Starting in 2012, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) offered direct financing to homeowners for the installation of solar-powered water heating systems with the goal of lowering energy bills, water consumption and reducing household greenhouse gas emissions. The success of the pilot allowed HRM to expand it into a permanent program called HalifAct that includes solar hot air and solar electric systems.
