Blair Lancaster was elected in 2010 as a City and Regional Councillor for the City of Burlington and the Region of Halton, in a ward that is comprised of both urban and rural communities. Her ward has experienced unique growth challenges that has required creative thinking and innovative solutions which she can bring to the FCM board.
During her time on Council she has been a champion for Inclusivity, Diversity and Accessibility issues. She has lead the change for Gender neutral washrooms, Epi Pens in city facilities, improved accessibility in parks and other City services and the recognition of Cultural Diversity at city and regional events.
She believes the key to community building is for people to find their similarities rather than their differences. Two key strategies she uses are food and play to bring families together regardless of culture.
In response to these beliefs she organizes a community festival each year in her Ward for over 1500 residents. She is responsible for the City of Burlington's international twinning relationship, which has allowed her to represent the community on international economic development missions to both the Netherlands and Japan. Blair also serves as Chair of the Region's Administration and Finance and Accessibility committees.
Before her election, she successfully ran her own business for 40 years inspiring women to achieve their goals and she served for 20 years as Executive Director of a Not for Profit organization, Breast Cancer Support Services, supporting women who were journeying through Breast Cancer.
It is through this experience that she developed a broad skill set that included raising awareness of priority issues, managing public and private partnerships, ensuring fiscal accountability and leading advocacy efforts to all levels of government.
