LYNDA HUNDLEBY is pleased to stand as a candidate for a Director position on the FCM Board 2017-2018. A fifth term Councillor in the Township of Esquimalt, Lynda was appointed to serve on Standing Committees of FCM for the last two years specifically the BC Caucus; Community Safety and Crime Prevention; Municipal Finance and Intergovernmental Arrangements; Increasing Women's Participation in Municipal Governments; and Municipal Infrastructure and Transportation Policy. She would be honoured to represent British Columbia local governments on the Board of FCM this coming year. She has enjoyed her time working at the national level and has learned so much from her colleagues on the Board and staff at FCM, formally and informally.
From humble beginnings as a community volunteer and advocate, Lynda has been involved in a variety of leadership positions on Parent Advisory Councils and the Parks and Recreation Commission. As an elected Councillor, Lynda has participated in almost all municipal committees, being involved in emergency planning, environmental advisory, heritage advisory, arts and culture, and has faced a number of difficult decisions from policing to land use to regional wastewater treatment in our community. In a regional capacity, she has also served on the Water Commission, Library Board, and Treaty Advisory Committee. Currently she is an Alternate Director on the Capital Region District Board, and appointed to the Regional Coalition to End Homelessness Society Board, and the Labour Relations Association representing employers.
Lynda advocates respect and fairness for all and in all matters, public consultation, co-operative leadership, and active listening. Our sense of community and connectedness attracts many newcomers to Esquimalt bolstering that feeling of pride of place. New endeavors of commercial and residential developments, especially for families, have energized the community and project hope for the future and a sense of accomplishment for our Council and indeed, the whole community. Our population of 17,700 is poised for growth!
Lynda works hard on behalf of her constituents and community and is known for attending most public events; as well as her positions on lifelong learning, prudent financial management, recycling and environmental concerns, beautification, and healthy living.
In her working life, Lynda has had a satisfying career as a professional pharmacist, in the retail, hospital, outpatient clinic sectors, and in the Provincial civil service finishing in management.
All of these experiences as well as her cultural up-bringing have provided perspective and skill sets that have shaped and contributed to her breadth of knowledge.
Of Chinese-Canadian descent, Lynda was born in Vancouver BC and has lived her adult life in the Greater Victoria area. Happily retired and married to Walt, they have two adult children and three adorable grandkids. In her spare time, Lynda enjoys her family and friends, cooking, baking, cultural activities, flowers, travelling, and needlework.
