I would like to introduce myself, Vicki-May Hamm, Mayor of the City of Magog in Québec (population 27,000), since 2009. It would be a great pleasure for me to serve on the FCM Board of Directors. My motivations are to work with my colleagues in Quebec to ensure that we have a voice within FCM, but also to work with my colleagues across Canada as a privileged interlocutor with the federal government. I am already present at most meetings because I am involved in working committees on the place of women, economic development and international relations. In addition, I have just been nominated to the Rail Safety Working Group.
I trust that my implications for the UMQ could also be useful in making connections between the issues of the FCM and those of the UMQ. I currently sit on the Executive Committee and the UMQ Board of Directors, I am the Vice-President of the Regional Cities Caucus, I am President or the Smart Cities Working Committee, I was the spokesperson for the Cross-border coalition for railway safety and I sit on the Committee on International Relations and the organising Committee for the Annual Conference. In addition, my colleagues mandated me to represent them on the Commission on Innovative Cities of the International Association of Francophone Mayors.
As far as my professional background is concerned, I have a college background in social work and I have worked for several local and community development organizations. I then continued my training to develop expertise in communications and economic development. I had the chance of working with entrepreneurs for almost 10 years as a business development and communication advisor and as a mentor program manager.
I look forward to your support in the FCM Board of Directors elections. To get to know me more you can consult my Facebook page, my Twitter account and LinkedIn. Also, I will be in Ottawa for the entire congress, do not hesitate, it will be a pleasure to meet you.
Vicki-May Hamm, Mayor of the City of Magog
