Outstanding Contribution to International Programs

Town of Beaumont, Alberta

The Town of Beaumont, Alberta has been involved in FCM's international programs since 2010. Their work with elected officials, farmers, the business community and other stakeholders in the Kohtom and Saang districts of Cambodia has led to marked improvements in crop management and marketing. Their efforts led to the creation of new networks within the community, including a savings group and irrigation cooperative. Mayor Camille Bérubé and Council have been strong supporters of the Municipal Partners for Economic Development program and rallied the community behind their efforts.  Beaumont residents and schools are raising funds to provide supplies to elementary schools in Kohtom and Saang.

MRC de la Matawinie, QC

The MRC de la Matawinie, Québec, has been involved in FCM international programs since 2000. The MRC first worked with the municipality of Bougoula, in Mali to revitalize its local market, which now acts as a hub for community life. Since 2011, the MRC Matawinie is working with the Association of municipalities of Burkina Faso and with the municipality of Orodara on the creation of support services for small and medium-sized businesses to promote local economic development. Matawinie's municipal experts also helped officials in Orodara launch a loan fund for equipment purchases. The fund enables entrepreneurs to modernize and expand their operations, create employment and contribute to their community's economy.

Outstanding Contribution to Global Municipal Networks

Gary MacIsaac

Union of British Columbia Municipalities

UBCM Executive Director Gary MacIsaac's has been providing expertise on policy development and advocacy to local government associations in FCM partner countries in Asia and Africa since 2002. He has become one of FCM International's leading municipal experts on association capacity-building, helping organizations such as the Philippine's League of Cities, the Association of Cities of Vietnam and Cambodia's National League of Local Councils strengthen their member services and develop policy positions on issues such as local economic development and women in local government.
