FCM elects new president and table officers at annual conference (01/06/2014)
NIAGARA REGION, ON - Today municipal leaders from across Canada elected a new President and table officers to lead the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) in 2014-2015.
FCM's new President, Brad Woodside, Mayor of the City of Fredericton, was elected by delegates attending the FCM's 77th Annual Conference and Trade Show in the Niagara Region. Working with him will be the new First Vice-President, Councillor Raymond Louie, Vancouver, BC; Second Vice-President, Councillor Clark Somerville, Regional Municipality of Halton, ON and Third Vice-President, Councillor Jenny Gerbasi from the city of Winnipeg, MB.
"This is one of the highest honours I've ever received in my many decades of involvement in municipal politics," said mayor Brad Woodside. "I'm looking forward to serving on behalf of municipalities across the country and making hometown champions out of all Canadians."
Mayor Woodside is a Fredericton native and was first elected to Fredericton City Council in 1981. He is now serving his eighth term as Mayor, making him the longest serving mayor of Fredericton. Mayor Woodside served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and is a former radio talk show host and announcer. He is the recipient of over 35 national and international public speaking awards. Mayor Woodside also has an honourary doctor of laws degree from St. Thomas University.
