Canada’s municipal leaders gather in Halton Region (12/09/2016)
The second phase of the federal government's infrastructure plan and the affordable housing crisis in Canada top the agenda at FCM's Board of Directors meeting in Halton Region, September 13 -16, 2016. Invited guests include the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, federal minister responsible for housing, and Dwight Dorey, National Chief of the Indigenous Peoples' Assembly of Canada.
The four-day meeting brings together more than 75 municipal leaders from across Canada to develop a shared policy and advocacy agenda to strengthen today's communities and tomorrow's Canada.
"It's a historic moment for Canada's municipalities. Local priorities are front and centre on the national agenda," stated Clark Somerville, FCM President and Councillor from the Regional Municipality of Halton Hills. "As a sector we need to unite on how we will strengthen the partnership with all orders of government to deliver for all Canadians."
"Halton Regional Council is delighted to welcome delegates from FCM to Halton," stated Gary Carr, Regional Chair, Halton Region. "The September FCM Board Meeting is an important opportunity to establish policy and advocacy priorities that will help address the critical issues facing municipalities across the country. By working together, we can ensure that the voices of all Canadians are heard."
To honour Halton Region as the host of the meeting, municipal leaders will donate children's books by authors from their home communities to the Acton Library and plant a tree in partnership with Tree Canada.
