First Nations-Municipal Collaboration Programs

Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve, Henvey Inlet First Nation and the Municipality of Killarney, ON

About this CIPP project

These communities experienced various challenges with solid waste management including the closure of waste sites, lack of access to waste sites, and extending the life of existing sites. Henvey Inlet First Nation and the Wikwemikong community of Point Grondine sought a new location to send their solid waste. The Township of Killarney had been taking some of their waste but had concerns about the life span of their land fill sites. Together, they explored opportunities for collaboration, including reducing the amount of material going to land fill sites.
