Green Municipal Fund 2017–2018 Annual Report

Cover of annual report. Text: Delivering results. Building capacity. Green Municipal Fund 2017-2018 Annual Report

FCM's Green Municipal Fund (GMF) supports municipalities across the country in their sustainable community development goals, improving the quality of air, water and land, as well as reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. By investing up to $862 million in projects over nearly two decades, and reducing GHGs by 2.5 million tonnes — the equivalent to taking 571,000 cars off the road — GMF has helped to improve the quality of life for Canadians.

In the 2017-2018 annual report, we show how we continue to support municipal initiatives with significant environmental, economic and social benefits; connect sustainability leaders through networks and other opportunities; build local capacity; and demonstrate the impact of our knowledge resources, training and tools.

You'll also learn more about:

  • Our efforts to advance municipal sustainability initiatives in cities and communities through funding and innovative replicable practices, like:

    • The district energy system in the City of Revelstoke, BC, which is fueled by locally-sourced wood waste and provides heat to eight buildings
    • The wastewater treatment plant in the Region of Waterloo, ON, that will use biogas as a new energy source to better serve a growing population
  • Our tools, knowledge resources and training opportunities of 2017–2018
