For over 125 years, FCM has been the pillar that local leaders have relied on to turn local solutions into national progress. In 2025 alone, we have:

  • Amplified your voices on the international level. During the most recent tariff discussions, FCM ensured all municipal voices are heard at the national table. Together, we advocated for your regional industries and helped shape decisions that reflect local economic realities, protecting your local jobs and supporting economic resilience.
  • Secured continued infrastructure funding. FCM successfully advocated for the renewal and continuation of the Build Communities Strong Fund’s community stream (formerly the Canada Community-Building Fund) in 2024 and 2025. We are actively advocating for the doubling of the fund, as successfully achieved in 2019 and 2021, while pushing for the next generation of sustainable infrastructure programs to meet growing community needs.
  • Drove progress on affordable housing. The launch of the Build Canada Homes agency reflects FCM’s long-standing call for collaborative, community-driven housing solutions. FCM played a key role in advocating for and shaping the program’s design to ensure it aligns with municipal priorities. With a focus on supportive housing, modular construction, and deeply affordable units, BCH opens the door to sustained federal investment.
  • Championed rural and northern communities. At FCM’s 2025 Annual Conference, we released The Future of Rural Canada, a comprehensive roadmap to unlock rural potential through economic development, connectivity, and service delivery. Building on this work, FCM is developing a similar report focused on northern communities. Ahead of the federal budget, FCM’s rural recommendations were shared widely, including directly with nearly 100 MPs and senators during Advocacy Days. We also strengthened cross-border collaboration with the U.S. National Association of Counties to share best practices amid trade disruptions.
  • Advanced bail reform for safer communities. Thanks to FCM’s advocacy, new bail reform legislation was introduced to address local concerns about repeat and violent offenses. While we continue to push for a more comprehensive approach, this achievement marks a step toward smarter, more collaborative public safety solutions.
  • Expanded support through the Green Municipal Fund.  For over 25 years, the Green Municipal Fund has provided municipalities with funding, programming, and on-the-ground expertise to tackle climate adaptation and sustainability. This trusted resource continues to grow and evolve, scaling up key initiatives like Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation to help communities strengthen resilience and prepare for climate impacts.
  • Built capacity through trusted programs.  FCM continues to lead national and international programs that strengthen municipal capacity in areas like climate innovation, asset management, gender parity, and more—helping communities of all sizes thrive.
