Through this program, we encourage transparency and efficiency in Haiti's local governments. We also support increased cooperation between national federations of local elected officials and the central government. The program also focuses on:
- Citizens: Encouraging them to take part in planning and decision making in their communities
- Municipalities: Increasing the transparency and efficiency of the local tax collection process so there's more money for community development projects and better municipal services
- National federations of local elected officials: Providing training to help them speak with a strong, united voice and defend their interests and the elected officials' role to Haiti's central government
- Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities: Supporting its decentralization work by bringing stability to the public sector and collaborating with national federations
We consult with Canadian local government experts who specialize in tax systems, gender issues, and urban planning, among others.
This program, funded by Global Affairs Canada, is implemented in partnership with the Union des municipalités du Québec and the City of Montreal.
