MIRNA DJUKIC, LEDUC – Municipal leaders from across Western Canada met with federal elected officials on Monday to discuss the economic challenges they face. They discussed infrastructure funding and assistance to clean up abandoned wells.
"We know that there is a great distance between here and Ottawa, but we can ensure that distance is reduced by working together on concrete projects," said federal Economic Development Minister Mélanie Joly on Monday while visiting the town of Leduc, south of Edmonton.
She was joined by the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Chrystia Freeland, to attend a summit hosted by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' (FCM) Western Solutions Task Force. (In French only.)
