(Ottawa) - Raymond Louie, the President of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, handed several federal cabinet ministers an action plan to implementing major planks of the government's election platform. This capped a week-long meeting of the FCM Board of Directors with over 100 municipal elected leaders convening in Ottawa.

In a series of face-to-face meetings with the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and the Minster of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, the senior leadership of FCM presented a detailed document titled Cities and Communities: Partners in Canada's FutureThe document lays out a plan of action for working with the municipal sector to drive growth, create jobs and improve the quality of life for all Canadians. It lays out critical steps that need to be taken in the first 100 days of Parliament to achieve results that will be felt by Canadians from coast to coast to coast. FCM will deliver the action plan to all federal ministers including the Prime Minster.

"With our support and expertise on the ground, Prime Minister Trudeau will be able to quickly and effectively implement his plan to invest in our country's future through better transit, housing and infrastructure.  This action plan shows him how that is possible," said President Louie.

In his meetings, FCM's President commended the ministers for their commitment to work with municipalities as equal partners to implement key strategies to strengthen our communities.

"I was very impressed and encouraged by the commitment of each minister to work with municipalities as partners. This is great news for Canadians families. As a former city councillor, Minister Sohi knows first-hand how, by working together, our two orders of government can effectively and efficiently bolster Canada's economy and improve the lives of our citizens," said President Louie.

FCM's Board meeting was held in Ottawa this week to focus on strengthening the capacity of municipal leaders to engage constructively with their federal counterparts.

FCM is the national voice of municipal government. In leading the municipal movement, FCM works to align federal and local priorities, recognizing that strong hometowns make for a strong Canada.
