Statement from FCM President Raymond Louie on housing commitments from federal party leaders:

"Last week, FCM's Big City Mayors Caucus challenged federal leaders to present clear commitments to work with municipalities on solving the housing crunch too many Canadian families face. The New Democratic Party of Canada is the first out of the gate to offer fully costed commitments to support this fundamental pillar of a strong economy. The NDP plan to invest $2.2 billion over the next four years to both build new social housing and preserve existing funding is an important benchmark for other parties. As well, the plan to invest $500 million on rental incentives will increase the range of affordable options for working Canadians. The content and specificity of this plan now sets the bar for other parties to meet. It sets out a clear plan that will significantly help the most vulnerable members of our communities and offer relief to hard-working Canadian families who struggle to find affordable housing. In the coming days, we look forward to all parties presenting their detailed plan to work on affordable housing solutions."
