On behalf of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), I wish to express my deepest sympathy over the loss of Durham Regional Chair and CEO - and long-time FCM Board Member - Roger Anderson.
Roger was a true friend, and a champion of Canada's municipalities. This was obvious to anyone fortunate enough to work with him, whether during his remarkable 20-year run as Regional Chair of a community he loved, or on the national stage during his many years on FCM's Board of Directors. Roger made immense contributions to FCM's work, including as former Chair of our Standing Committee on International Relations. He was a leader in FCM's work to build stronger communities in Ukraine - something that made him very proud. Roger's loss will be felt far and wide.
Those of us who knew Roger understood that beneath his sometimes tough exterior was a real gentleman with a great sense of humour. He was a mentor and a role model. Roger's commitment to public service and his many contributions to his community - to all our communities - are examples that will live on for years to come.
On behalf of local governments across Canada, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to Roger's family, friends and colleagues.
