I am excited to announce my candidacy for a position as Director representing Nova Scotia on the Board of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and grateful for the support of my council in this endeavour.

Municipal councilors have a unique privilege; we represent the best interests of our constituents without being constrained by the expectations and rules of partisan politics. This liberty is much of the reason that so many of the most important initiatives that positively affect the development of our nation are rooted in the vision and action of municipalities. As the collective voice of Canadian municipalities, FCM has been and will continue to be a powerful force for positive change, and to have the opportunity to serve on the board of such an organization would be a great honour.

I am currently in my second term as a representative for the Municipality of the County of Annapolis, a progressive, rural municipality committed to sustainable practices and community-focused economic development. In my first term I served for two years as a councilor for the Municipality and then for two years as Deputy Warden, and I currently serve in the office of Warden. I have been an active and contributing member of the following committees:

UNSM Board of Directors Nov 2016 - present
Economic Development 2012-present
Police Advisory Board 2012-present
Audit Committee 2012-present
Planning Advisory 2012-present
Regional Emergency Management Advisory 2016-present
Annapolis Valley Regional Library Board 2012-2016
Fire Services Committee 2012-2016

I am fiercely proud of Nova Scotia, its history, its natural beauty, and its rich culture, and a passionate advocate for small rural communities across the nation. Small communities are repositories of our collective knowledge, the source of our resilience in the face of changes to the global economy and shifting climate patterns, and bastions of the values of determination, resourcefulness, kindness and compassion that truly define us as Canadians. I hope I may be given the opportunity to contribute my efforts and passion to the important, collaborative work of the FCM board.
