Matt Parry began his career in the public service as a research analyst in the Ontario Ministry of Treasury and Economics in 1989. He has worked for the Government of Canada for more than 25 years, with a focus on policy analysis and strategic planning. His previous positions in the federal government include Senior Policy Analyst and Senior Project Leader for the Department of Finance, Senior Advisor for the Privy Council Office, and Director of Strategic Analysis for Natural Resources Canada.
Matt joined Environment Canada in 2005 and has served as Director of Strategic Policy Development and Integration, as well as Executive Director of Policy Development. As part of his current duties as Director General (Strategic Policy) at Environment and Climate Change Canada, he is responsible for providing strategic analysis and advice to the Minister and other senior officials on the management of the department's policy priorities, as well as analysis and advice concerning key horizontal policy issues, including climate change mitigation and adaptation and freshwater.
In 2016, he served as a co-chair of the federal-provincial-territorial Working Group on Adaptation and Climate Resilience, which provided advice to Ministers on climate change adaptation priorities for the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change.
