Toronto – The Canadian Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) has been recognized as a national leader in sustainability excellence, receiving a Canada’s 2023 Clean50 award.

CCRI is a collaboration developed by the National Zero Waste Council, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Green Municipal Fund (FCM’s GMF), the Recycling Council of Alberta and RECYC-QUÉBEC to provide local governments in Canada with the knowledge and tools needed to accelerate circular economy solutions.

“Through the CCRI, municipalities are catalyzing the circular economy as conveners, purchasers and change agents bringing with it opportunities to create new jobs and environmental sustainability — at a time when governments and communities are in critical need of both,” said Chris Boivin, FCM Chief Development Officer and Managing Director, GMF.

The CCRI is a venue for community members to learn and share best practices for implementing circular economy strategies and policies. They have access to one-on-one mentoring and support from advisors representing leading Canadian and international leaders and practitioners. Through peer-to-peer exchange and direct interaction with subject matter experts, local governments will be able to develop their own unique circular economy roadmaps for their communities.

Founded by Delta Management in 2011, the Clean50 awards recognize Canada’s leaders in sustainability, and aim to accelerate collaboration towards a job-rich, cleaner, healthier, innovation based low-carbon economy supporting all Canadians. The Clean50 Top Projects annually recognize those projects completed in the prior two years based on their innovation, their ability to inform, and inspire other Canadians.
