Are you interested in learning what asset management is, how to use asset information and records, and how to create an asset management plan? Sign up by March 30, 2018 for an online asset management certificate course to help you develop your asset management skills while using data from your own municipality.
This 8-week course, delivered by National Asset Management Strategy Canada (NAMS Canada), is offered from April to June, 2018.
Dates: Every Tuesday from April 10 to June 5, 2018 (one-week break for Victoria Day)
Time: 3:00 - 4:30 pm EDT
Location: Online, through a series of weekly webinars, videos and forums
Time commitment: 12 hours attending online classes, and 50 hours to complete coursework and assignments
Enrollment: maximum of two participants from each Canadian municipality
Delivered by: NAMS Canada, a not-for-profit aimed at providing asset management tools, publications and training.
What you will learn
This course will benefit municipalities looking to increase their knowledge of:
- Key asset management principles and standards
- How to prepare an asset management plan
- What information you need to draft an asset management plan
- How to document citizens' expectations related to service needs
- How to document technical requirements for assets
- Industry standard asset management tools and templates
- What asset management data you need, and how to use, edit and report on it
- How to document asset issues and anticipate potential problems using a risk management plan
Participants will use their municipality's data to complete assignments and develop a draft asset management plan.
The opportunity to work with your municipal data with expert guidance will ensure that the course has an immediate impact on your municipal practices.
Who should attend
This course is offered to:
- Canadian municipal staff; and
- Elected officials involved with asset management tasks within their municipality.
This course can benefit municipalities of all sizes, but is aimed at helping communities with a population of less than 10,000 and with limited expertise in asset management.
The course would be ideal for municipal staff in positions such as:
- Senior manager or administrator
- Asset manager
- Accountant / finance staff
- Community planner
- Technical officer
- Administrative staff
Your municipality does not need to be an FCM member in order to participate and receive the discounted registration price.
Fees and participant information
The cost of the course to your municipality is $215 plus taxes, per participant. We are providing financial support that will cover over 90 per cent of the original course cost.
A maximum of two participants from each Canadian municipality are eligible to attend.
Registrants will need to provide a letter from their municipalities stating their support and commitment to completing the course.
